Chris Kemper
Chris Kemper
is the Deputy Director of the Computing, Communications and Networking Division
at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The
Division is responsible for high-performance computing, networking and
telecommunications at the Laboratory.
Mr. Kemper is also the Laboratory Technical Cyber Security Program
Manager. In this position, he is
responsible for overseeing institutional intrusion detection, incident
response, firewall development, authentication and authorization system
development and several other computer and network security activities.
Mr. Kemper has been at the Laboratory since 1988. He led the Telecommunications Group from 1992 to 1995 and the Network Engineering Group from 1995 until 2000 when he was appointed to his current position. He has been deeply involved in network security issues, technologies and policies for the past six years.
Prior to
joining Los Alamos, Mr. Kemper was a project leader at a network technology
startup company for three years and a Member of the Technical Staff at Bell
Laboratories for seven years. During
this time, he developed telecommunications carrier transmission systems and
earned 4 U.S. patents in this area. Mr.
Kemper began his career as an electrical engineer designing data acquisition
and control systems for one year at the Link Simulations Products Company and
for four years at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory.
Mr. Kemper
received a BS degree from Case Western Reserve University and an MS degree from
Johns Hopkins University; both degrees in electrical engineering.
