MARK SHAND

Mark Shand is a member of HP Laboratories where he leads hardware development for the Sepia scalable interactive graphics system. Sepia is the subject of a major contract from the US Department of Energy under the ASCI/VIEWS program. In 1988 he joined the Digital Equipment Corporation Paris Research Laboratory and contributed to early work on re-configurable computing. Through his career at Digital, Compaq and HP, he has worked on a number of novel applications of Field Programmable Gate Arrays to high performance computing and communication, Sepia being the latest. He holds four US patents in computer architecture and FPGA technology. He attended the University of Sydney where he was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in 1982 and a Doctor of Philosophy in computer Science in 1987. He is a member of IEEE and ACM.
