American Power Conversion
Richard Sawyer is the Director of Data Center Technology at
American Power Conversion (APC), a leading global provider of high availability
systems for network-critical physical infrastructure. At APC, Mr. Sawyer is responsible for
professional services supporting the design, construction and operation of
major data centers for clients of APC.
Before joining APC, Mr. Sawyer previously worked for Aetna Life
and Casualty, Cigna Corporation, and Fidelity Investments where he in served in
a variety of capacities including as Director of Real Estate Assets, Director
of Electrical Engineering, Data Center Manager, and Director of Technology.
In his previous positions, his responsibilities included
mission-critical data center design and supervision. He also managed three major data centers in
Connecticut, where his responsibilities included asset management strategy,
technical staffing, and project management.
Mr. Sawyer also has experience in project design, equipment
specification and selection, contracting, staff selection and testing,
performance measurement, national engineering standards, and global data center
development. He has developed Internet
data centers in Japan, Brazil and Argentina, as well as participating in the
design and construction of major corporate headquarters buildings in the U.S.
that housed mission-critical spaces.
Currently, he is a member of AFCOM, 7X24 Exchange, and is a
Board Member at the Data Center Institute.
Mr. Sawyer received his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the
University of Connecticut. He also
holds a Master’s degree in Industrial Technology from Central Connecticut State
University and an Unlimited Electrical Contractor E1 License from the State of
Connecticut.
