Description:
Grid
Computing is network centric. However, networks traditionally play a very
passive role: They are the ‘plumbing’ that connects resources. And with bandwidth
increasing at a rate that bests Moore’s Law, networks are exceedingly good
plumbing. But there’s more to networks than just bandwidth. For example, it’s
possible to allocate wavelengths of light in real time on optical networks, and
have serious discussions on semi-autonomous wireless sensor networks. These examples hint at the possibilities for
smart networks – i.e., networks as bona fide resources. In this session, a
distinguished panel of experts will discuss current, emerging and future
prospects for smart networks in Grid Computing.
