Mr. Riehl will discuss the technical issues surrounding the
importance of guaranteed and deterministic network performance in the
high-performance computing and communications arenas, with emphasis on
scientific visualization/collaboration. Technological advances are enabling more
high-bandwidth applications to be implemented at the network edge. The growth and proliferation of cluster
computing, grid applications, high-definition video distribution, and disaster
recovery/business continuance/homeland security applications are driving
networks to higher speeds — and demanding higher throughputs. Mr. Riehl will
present the networking technologies available to meet these demands, examine
the pros and cons of the various network technologies used to support the
applications today, and identify unique network requirements for supporting
these and other emerging high-end applications well into the future.
