BlueGene/L: Progress and Plans

New opportunities are opening up for scientists at LLNL and elsewhere with deployment of BlueGene/L, a computer designed by IBM for DOE NNSA's Advanced Simulation and Computing Program. The 360 teraFLOP/s peak speed BlueGene/L is No. 1 on the list of the world's Top500 supercomputers and is in continuous operation, performing challenging calculations in first-principles and classical molecular dynamics, dislocation dynamics, hydrodynamic turbulence, instability, and shock. The successes of recent applications represent important scientific advancement and a big step toward achieving the capabilities needed to support the NNSA stockpile stewardship mission.
