An Introduction to DoD
Netcentric Transformation
The department of defense is undertaking a
massive transformation in both communications and processing to achieve the end
objective of a netcentric warfighter
environment. The netcentric
environment includes the tactical and strategic transport and processing
environments as well as the business enterprise systems.
This presentation addresses the fundamental
components of the netcentric transformation
illustrating both the characteristics of each component and their relationship
to the overall netcentric system implementation. Since the transformation to netcentric warfare includes the tactical and office
wireless environments, the new DoD
wireless security policy is also presented.
This policy addresses all wireless components from tactical radio
equipments to cellular, high-speed wireless, and 802.11 network elements. Finally, transport and processing challenges
and issues concerning the netcentric programs are
summarized.
