Collective
HPC Services with a Distributed Delivery Model
The DoD
sustains eight HPC Centers in support of Research and Development and Test and
Evaluation investigations via the High Performance Computing Modernization
Program (HPCMP). While each Center has
its unique strengths, synergy is required between them to collectively address
the diverse set of user requirements.
Addressing these requirements has led to an increase in the coordination
of planning, acquisition, implementation, and operational activities between
the Centers.
Several projects involving multi-Center coordination will be
profiled with outlines of the organizational processes required to support
requirements gathering, prioritization, technical design, acquisition,
implementation, and sustainment. Experiences with elements such as pride of
ownership, culture melding, collective acquisitions and “working together” will
be discussed and outcomes such as cost optimization, teaming, friendships, and
synergistic service models will be presented.
