Boeing Commercial Airplanes:
Today’s
Uses and Tomorrow’s Needs
The use of supercomputing to design commercial airplanes has
dramatically increased in the past decade. Developments in both hardware
and numerical methods have allowed for simulation to be brought into more
design areas. The benefits that have been realized by the 787 program
will be presented. However, even with these dramatic increases in
capability a wide variety of opportunities exist for even greater penetration
of numerical simulation into the airplane design process. These
opportunities, along with the needed technology advances, will be discussed.
